Ambanus kimi: Ovtchinnikov, 1999 , p. 64 (transferred male from Coelotes ): Namkung, 2001, p. 395, fig 28.9a-c (ɗ, misidentified Ψ).
Material examined: One ɗ and one Ψ ( NIBR), two ɗ and two Ψ ( LBHU), by trap (28 August 2007 – 17 January 2008), Mt. Jirisan (GPS: 35°15’N, 127°38’E), Hadong-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do, leg. B.W. Kim. All specimens were collected on the ground among stones and leaf litter by pitfall trap.
Dimensions (mm). Female: total length 9.9; cheliceral length 2.3, width 1.2, cheliceral fang length 1.1; clypeal height 0.3; dorsal shield of prosoma length 4.6, width 3.0, height 1.7; gnathocoxae length 1.4, width 0.8; labium length 0.8, width 0.7; sternum length 2.3, width 1.8; AER 0.95, PER 1.23, AME 0.14, ALE 0.21, PME 0.21, PLE 0.21. Eye formula ALE=PME= PLE>AME. Palp 4.4 (femur 1.5, patella 0.6, tibia 0.9, cymbium 1.4). First leg 10.3 (femur 3.0, patella 1.4, tibia 2.3, metatarsus 2.3, tarsus 1.3), second leg 9.1 (2.7, 1.3, 1.8, 2.1, 1.2), third leg 8.9 (2.5, 1.3, 1.6, 2.3, 1.2), fourth leg 12.4 (3.3, 1.5, 2.6, 3.5, 1.5). Leg formula IV>I>II>III. Opisthosoma length 4.8, width 3.0, height 2.7.
Description. Female: medium-sized spider, longer than male (8.9). Dorsal shield of prosoma elongate, 1.5 times as long as wide, moderately narrowed in eye area, with distinct longitudinal fovea ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 9 ). AER straight, PER slightly procurved in frontal view; AME smaller than other eyes, separated by their diameter, eye ratio 41 ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1 – 9 ). Clypeal height 2.1 times as long as AME diameter, with pair of eyebrow-shaped chila ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1 – 9 ). Chelicerae with numerous long setae prolaterally; condyle yellowish brown; three promarginal teeth, middle one largest; two retromarginal teeth subequal in size ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1 – 9 ). Gnathocoxae reddish brown, widest at mid part; labium rectangular, 1.8 times as long as wide ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1 – 9 ). Sternum heart-shaped, widest at second coxae, 1.1 times as long as wide, and slightly projected between coxae IV ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 1 – 9 ). Palp bearing one claw with 7 pectinate teeth. Legs yellowish-brown without annulation; length of leg I (patella + tibia) always shorter than length of dorsal shield of prosoma; trochanters not notched; tarsi with three claws, paired claws with 9–10 pectinate teeth (I–III: 10, IV: 9), unpaired claw with 1.
Trichobothria: Palpal tibia: 14 in three rows (5d-6d-3r), tarsus: 5 in one row (5d); leg tibiae: 18–21 in four rows (5p- 5d-5d-5r on leg I, II, 4p-5d-5d-4r on III, 5p-6d-5d-5r on IV), metatarsi: 6–7 in one row (I: 6, II–IV: 7), tarsi: 6–7 in one row (I, II, IV: 7, III: 6); tarsal organ situated close to distal end of tarsus, slightly anterior of distal trichobothrium ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 1 – 9 ).
Spination: Palpal femur: 3 (0-0-1-2d), tibia: 3 (1-2p), tarsus: 13 (3-2-1p; 1-2-1r; 0-0- 3 v); leg I femur: 4 (1-1d; 0-0- 2p), tibia: 7 (0-0-1p; 2-2-2a v), metatarsus: 6 (2-2- 2v), tarsus: none; leg II femur: 4 (1-1-0d; 0-1-1p), tibia: 5 (0-0-1p; 1- 1-2a v), metatarsus: 8 (0-1-2p; 2-1- 2 v), tarsus: none; leg III femur: 6 (1-2-2d; 0-1-0-1p), tibia: 10 (1-1p; 1-1-0r; 2-2-2a v), metatarsus: 16 (1-2-2p and r; 2-2- 2v), tarsus: 5 (0-1-1p and v; 0-1-0r); leg IV femur: 5 (1-1-3d), tibia: 10 (1-1 p and r; 2-2-2a v), metatarsus: 17 (1-0-0d; 1-2-2p and r; 2-2- 2v), tarsus: 6 (0-1-1p, r and v). Opisthosoma ovoid with scattered brownish yellow spots, indistinct chevrons on dorsal side ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 9 ). Cribellum absent.
Female epigynum ( Figs 7–9 View FIGURES 1 – 9 ): Epigynal teeth absent; genital opening located on the marginal part of posterior atrium; ALR, 71; atrium, slightly 1.4 times as wide as long (length 0.62 mm, width 0.88 mm); atrial septum broad; atrial hood absent; copulatory ducts short, slightly curved; spermathecal heads cylindrical processes, situated laterally of spermathecae; spermathecae oval, with indistinctive stalks and bases, situated at the median of posterior atrium; fertilization ducts small, arising from posterior spermathecae.
Distribution: Korea (Mt. Gayasan, Mt. Jirisan).
