Subfamily Sitticinae Simon, 1901

Sitticeae Simon, 1901: 577, 1053 (Type genus: Sitticus Simon, 1901 ). Sitticinae : Petrunkevitch 1928: 205; Roewer 1954; Prószyński 1976.

Monophyly and relationships: Sitticines are easily recognized among amycoids by the loss of the retromarginal tooth (e.g. Galiano 1987). Sitticines are also distinctive for the fourth leg being much longer than the relatively short third leg. Their endites are convergent, lacking prominent expansion distally. Molecular data strongly support the subfamily’s monophyly ( Figs 36 View FIGURE 36 , 37 View FIGURES 37 – 38 , 39, 41 View FIGURES 39 – 43 ). They also suggest that Aillutticus is the sister group to Jollas + Sitticus , although the monophyly of Sitticus cannot be assured, as we have only two species included in the analyses.
