Scheibel, 1935:35 ( Adriaphaenops ), Type locality: Windhöhle bei Zavala, Herzegowina [=Popovo polje, Ravno, Zavala, Vjetrenica pećina].
Material examined. Two females: Holotype female labelled: “Zavala VIII 1929 ” (white label, hw)/“ Pretneri Typ! Scheibel” (white label, hw)/“Type” (red label, handwritten) (NMB), one female labelled: “Žira jama Turkovići” (white label, hw)/”Popovo polje 15.VII.1970 ” (white label, hw)/“leg. Bole Hercegov” (white label, hw,p)/ “Laboulbeniales n. 1096 Walter Rossi” (green label, hw,p)/“ pretneri det. Pretner 1970” (NMP).
Diagnosis. L: 4.65–5 mm, TL: 4.3–4.55 mm. Head large, rounded (index HL/HW 1.25), frontal furrows moderately impressed, reaching the first third of head length, with two pairs of long supraorbital setae; neck constriction distinct; genae evidently curved. Clypeus with four pairs of setae, labrum with three pairs of setae, outer pairs longer. Antennae long (AL 3.28 mm). Pronotum elongate (index PL/PW 1.25), slightly narrower than head, with maximum width before the anterior quarter, basal part as wide as anterior, anterior and posterior angles small and acute. Elytra elongate oval, broader, distinctly longer than wide (index EL/EW 1.74), with maximum width at middle; elytral surface covered with sparse, short and erected pubescence; striae absent. Site of stria 3 with three (two discal and one preapical) setae.
Male unknown.
Female genitalia: examination not possible, in both female specimens available to the authors, missed or damaged.
Distribution. Bosnia & Hercegovina, Popovo polje, Vjetrenica and Žira caves. Vjetrenica cave is one of the best explored caves in the Balkan Peninsula and it is the type locality also for other subterranean Coleoptera , namely Hadesia vasiceki Müller, 1911 , Anthroherpon apfelbecki apfelbecki (Müller, 1911) and Nauticiella stygivaga Moravec & Mlejnek, 2002 ( Cholevidae, Leptodirini ) as well as Scotoplanetes arenstorffianus Absolon, 1913 ( Carabidae , Trechini ). Troglamaurops ganglbaueri (Winkler, 1925) ( Staphylinidae , Pselaphinae ), Speonesiotes (Speonesiotes) naretinus latitarsis (Apfelbeck, 1919) ( Leiodidae, Leptodirini ), Neotrechus suturalis otiosus Obenberger, 1917 and Neotrechus dalmatinus (Miller, 1861) ( Carabidae , Trechini ) were also reported from this cave.
