Acupalpus atratus Dejean, 1829: 449 View in CoL .
The specimen here designated as lectotype is a female, labelled “ atratus mi. in Gal. mer.” and “ Lectotype of Acupalpus atratus Dejean, 1829 desig. by J. Serrano ” .
This name is currently considered a synonym of A. brunnipes (Sturm, 1825) , a species that is mentioned by Dejean himself (1829) in the original description. It is a species readily recognized by the lack of a dorsal pore in the second half of the third interval of elytra, a character that is noted in the lectotype of A. atratus , and that was also mentioned by Dejean. Keys to identify A. brunnipes are found elsewhere ( Jeannel, 1942; Wrase, 2004, 2011, etc.).
The species is distributed in the Azores, Central Europe, the Mediterranean Basin (but not in the Levant) and Anatolia.
