Description. Length 2.5–3.0 mm. Body ( Fig. 1F View FIGURE 1 ) robust; surface glossy and densely pubescent, with fine microsculpture. Body dark brown to black; elytra and legs brown to yellowish brown. Head. Subcircular, about as wide as long, widest across eyes, distinctly narrower than pronotum; eyes large and prominent, about 1.3 times as long as temples; gular sutures moderately separated, diverged basally. Antennae long and slender, longer than head and pronotum combined; antennomeres compactly close together, 1–3 elongate, 4–6 about as long as wide, 7–10 slightly transverse, 11 longest, slightly longer than preceding two combined. Thorax. Pronotum approximately 1.3– 1.4 times as wide as long, widest in basal third to half, pubescence directed posteriorly in midline. Elytra slightly transverse, slightly wider than pronotum; elytron approximately 1.4–1.5 times as long as wide, pubescence directed posteriorly and postero-laterally; postero-lateral margin slightly sinuate; hind wings fully developed. Legs. Slender and long, with pubescence and macrosetae; tibiae with two spurs at apex. Abdomen. Widest in segments III–IV; surface glossy and densely pubescent; tergites III–IV impressed, V slightly impressed in basal region; female tergite VIII with four macrosetae on each side of midline, posterior margin broadly round; posterior margin of female sternite VIII subtruncate, with long and short marginal setae. Spermatheca. Bursa relatively large, with large umbilicus; duct dilated and coiled apically.
Type material. Syntype, 1♂, labeled as follows: ‘ Ceylon. S. Lewis. 1910–––320. Horton Plains. 6,000 ft. 18- 20.III.32. Co-type, a. anepsia Cam. , a. suspiciosa Motsch. , suspiciosa Motsch , Atheta suspiciosa Mot. Det. R. Pace 1983 .
Material examined. NORTH KOREA: 1♀, Corea septentr. Hamgjong-pukdo, 2-6 X 1991 ISEZ [ North Korea , Hamgyeongbuk Prov., 2–6 x 1991, ISEA] .
Distribution. Korea (North), China (Beijing, Gansu, Guizhou, Shaanxi, Yunnan, Xinjiang), India (Uttaranchal, Uttar Pradesh), Sri Lanka and Oriental region.
Remarks. This species was recorded in North Korea by Paśnik (2001) and no specimen has been collected from South Korea. I could not describe the mouthparts in detail because no specimen was available for dissection This subspecies is distinguished from other subspecies, A. (A.) suspiciosa Kathmanduorum Pace by clearer base of antenna; less developed aedeagus; relatively smaller distal bulb of spermatheca; and narrower speramthecal duct apically ( Pace, 1987).
