The holotypeof  H. ebenusWoodwas described from the state of Espírito Santo, Brazil, in Wood’s (2007)monograph of the South American species. The holotypeis in the Museu de Entomologia in Ilha Solteira ( MEFEIS, not the Museu de Zoologia da Universidade de São Paulo as stated in the description. While the holotypeof  H. crudiaePanzerhas been lost, the material used by Wood in his monographs of North and Central America (1982) and South America (2007) has been examined by the first author. The holotypeand other specimens identified by Wood as  H. ebenusfall completely within the range of variation of  H. crudiae sensuWood.
