Nevertheless, material of the species, labelled “ type”, exists at the MCZ (MCZ-IZ 9009). Fraser’s description of  A. dissimiliswas based on a fragment of a single sterile colony. That specimen, the holotypeby monotypy, is in poor condition. Few hydrocladia remain, and even then only the most proximal parts are present. Subsequently referred to  Nemertesia Lamouroux, 1812by Ramil & Vervoort (2006),  N. dissimilisis listed as valid in WoRMS. The species, from bathyal waters at the western edge of the Blake Plateau off southern Georgia, is known only from the type locality.
