Type Locality: Ethiopia, Managasha, near Addis Ababa.

Vernacular Names: Lovat's African Climbing Mouse.

Distribution: Ethiopian Plateau, 2500-3550 m ( Rupp, 1980).

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (nt).

Discussion: The type species of Chortomys , reviewed as an Ethiopian endemic by Yalden and Largen (1992) and Yalden et al. (1996). A grassland species differing from other Dendromus in its terrestrial habits ( Yalden, 1988; Yalden et al., 1976); sample statistics of external measurements provided by Sillero-Zubiri et al. (1995 a).
