Montistrongylus new genus

Diagnosis. Nippostrongylinae : Synlophe with up to 15 small pointed ridges, left ventral ridges largest: axis of orientation of ridges from ventral right to dorsal left, 55° from saggital axis in mid body, lacking carene. Bursa slightly asymmetrical, right lobe larger, dorsal lobe about same length as lateral lobes. Pattern of bursal rays 3–2. Rays 8 asymmetrical, left ray longer. Dorsal ray divided distal to level of branching of rays 8 from dorsal trunk. Parasites of hydromyine murids.

Type species Montistrongylus ingati .

Etymology. The genus name refers to the montane habitat of the host.
