TYPE LOCALITY: Denmark, Sieland Isl .

DISTRIBUTION: Europe to the Ural Mtns., south to the Crimea ( U.S. S.R.), Israel and the Balkans.

COMMENT: Includes tauricus; formerly included peninsulae ; see Corbet, 1978:134, 136, who discussed the possibility of hybridization between flavicollis and sylvaticus . Penis morphology reviewed by Williams et al., 1980, Mammalia, 44:245-258.
