TYPE LOCALITY: Nigeria, Zungeru .

DISTRIBUTION: Senegal to W. Zaire; Morocco; perhaps also in Zimbabwe and E. Africa.

COMMENT: Subgenus Mastomys ; see Misonne, 1974, Part 6:25. Chromosome number 2N=32; formerly included in erythroleucus ; see Petter, 1977, Mammalia, 41:441-444. Probably a synonym of natalensis ; see Misonne, 1974, Part 6: 25.
