TYPE LOCALITY: Nepal .
DISTRIBUTION: Himalayas, from N. India and Nepal to Bangladesh, Kansu, and Hainan ( China), and Vietnam.
COMMENT: Formerly included in Maxomys ; see Musser et al., 1979, J. Mammal., 60:592. Includes blythi, caudatior, cinnamomeus, flavipilis, gracilis, huang , jerdoni, lepidus, ling, mekongis, minor , octomammis, orbus, vulpicolor, and wongi; see Musser, 1981, Bull. Am. Mus . Nat. Hist., 168(3): 237, 251, 255, who stated that the relationships between fulvescens and niviventer , bukit , and rapit need clarification.
