Persescaphium View in CoL n. gen.

( Figs 1 View Figs 1, 2 to 5)

Type species. Persescaphium pari View in CoL sp. n.; gender: neutre. Diagnosis. Scaphiini with entire eyes, basal angles of pronotum broadly rounded, elytra lacking discal 1

2 striae, prosternum short, interprocoxal process sunken, transverse mesoventral ridge absent, metaventrite without trace of discrimen, metepimeron not fused with metanepisterna, metatarsomeres 1 and 2 similar in length, longer than metatarsomere 3.

Description. Head prognathous. Eyes entire, not notched near antennal insertion. Tempora distinct, temporal constriction present. Antennomers 3-11 symmetrical, club segments 7-10 almost round in crosssection, with apical rim of short setae, 11 distinctly Fattened. Mentum subtrapezoidal. Posterior angle of pronotum rounded, not molded into a recess of elytron. Antebasal stria on pronotum absent, indicated by coarse punctures; anterior margin stria widely interupted in middle. Elytral disc with longitudinal puncture rows, lacking discal sulci. Posterior edge of elytra fnely serrate. Epipleuron in lateral view vertical. Hypomera with basal line extended to level of anteriorr procoxal margin, hypomeral process triangular. Prosternum in front of coxae Fat, short, its length 0.25x of proxocal width, without median carina, anterior margin of prosternum not raised to form carina, lacking coarse puncture row. Procoxal process sunken below level of prosternum. Prepectus concealed. Keel of mesoventrite robust, starting at basal margin, inversely V-shaped, sharply delimited, rounded at tip.Transverse mesoventral ridge absent. Lateral margin of mesoventrite overlapped by sharp ridge. Mesoventral process about as wide as mesocoxa. Submesocoxal lines connected at middle of metaventrite, extended laterally along anterior margin to join anepisternal suture. Mesanepisternum without antebasal stria. Metaventrite with pair of macrosetae, lacking trace of discrimen, intermetacoxal plate short. Metepimeron not fused with metanepisternum. Abdominal tergite 7 with lateral lines. Sternite 3 longer than sternites 4 to 6 combined, sternite 7 almost 1.5 times as long as 6. Tibial striae absent. Metatarsus slender, with tarsomeres 1 and 2 elongate, longer than tarsomere 3 or 4. Gonocoxite ( Fig. 4 View Figs 3 - 5 ) with four subapical setae, small, elongate basal lobe; gonostyle ( Fig. 4 View Figs 3 - 5 ) slightly bent, with two short and one long apical setae. Spermatheca ( Fig. 5 View Figs 3 - 5 ) sclerotized, convoluted.

Comparative notes. The new taxon shares with members of Scaphium and Episcaphium posterior angles of the pronotum not molded into a recess of elytra and elytral disc impressed longitudinal striae. It differs drastically from them by the narrow prosternum with sunken intercoxal process, the anterior pronotal bead in middle broadly interrupted, and the metepiemera not fused. In addition, it may be readily distinguished from Scaphium by the narrow tarsi with elongate metatarsomeres 1 and 2, and from Episcaphium by the tibiae lacking striae and the eyes margins not notched at antennal insertions.

Etymology. The genus epithet is composed from Perse (= Persian) and the name of the genus Scaphium .
