Type material: Holotype: male, MALAYSIA: Sarawak Province : Gunung Mulu, Environs Camp 3, 1320 m, moss forest, from moss covered trunks, 21 May 1978, F. Wanless leg. ( NHM).

Paratype: 1 male ( SD 1554 ) with same data as for holotype ( SMF) .

Etymology: The species name is derived from the Malaysian word “hanya” meaning “simple” and referring to the simple structure of the male palp; term in apposition.

Diagnosis: Males of S. hanya spec. nov. are similar to those of S. albofasciata Jäger & Ono, 2002 in having a reduced vRTA and no embolic apophysis. They can be distinguished from the latter species by 1. smaller body size reaching 4.25 (13.00 in S. albofasciata ), 2. conductor short and proximal part nearly as wide as distal part (long and proximal part smaller than distal part in S. albofasciata ), 3. spermophore straight (slightly curved in S. albofasciata ), 4. embolus nearly straight in ventral view (curved and slender in ventral view in S. albofasciata ) and 5. RTA without distinct brush of stiff hairs and only with one branch (with distinct brush of stiff hairs present and with two branches in S. albofasciata ).

Description: Male (holotype): Total length 4.25; prosoma 2.05 long, 1.80 wide, anterior width of prosoma 1.00; opisthosoma 2.20 long, 1.25 wide. Eye measurements: AME 0.10; ALE 0.18; PME 0.15; PLE 0.18; AME– AME 0.05; AME–ALE 0.02; PME–PME 0.13; PME–PLE 0.11; AME–PME 0.16; ALE–PLE 0.12; clypeus AME 0.28; clypeus ALE 0.25. Leg formula: 2413. Measurements of palp and legs: palp: 3.00 (1.00, 0.45, 0.60, 0.95); I: 8.50 (2.25, 0.85, 2.30, 2.20, 0.90); II: 9.50 (2.60, 0.90, 2.60, 2.40, 1.00); III: 8.15 (2.30, 0.75, 2.20, 2.10, 0.80); IV: 8.60 (2.40, 0.80, 2.20, 2.30, 0.90). Spination: palp: 131, 101, 2111; legs: Fe I–III 323, IV 321; Pa I–IV 000; Ti I–IV 2126; Mt I–II 2026, III–IV 3036. Cheliceral furrow with 3 anterior and 4 posterior teeth.

Colouration in ethanol: Prosoma with conspicuous pattern, median part yellowish-white with light brown longitudinal stripe, latero-medially brown with dark brown stripes, anterior part brown, latero-anteriorly with two yellow spots, latero-posteriorly with two light brown stripes, posterior and lateral margin brown. Sternum yellowish-white with six brown dots laterally. Opisthosoma dorsally brown with yellow spots, medio-anteriorly with yellow patch, median part with two yellow spots, ventrally yellowish-brown with three brown spots anteriorly and triangular pattern posteriorly. Chelicerae yellowish-brown with three brown stripes. Palps yellowish-brown. Legs yellowishbrown; Fe medially and distally dotted, Pa ventrally brown, Ti posterior part brown, ventrally with brown dots.

Palp as in diagnosis. Embolus slightly curved in prolateral view. Conductor arising from 1-o’clock-position. RTA only with dorsal branch, rounded in ventral view, medially with small indentation in retrolateral view.

Variation: Male (SD 1554): Total length 4.15; prosoma 2.15 long, 1.90 wide; opisthosoma 2.00 long, 1.10 wide. Measurements leg I: total length 8.95, Fe 2.40, Pa 0.90, Ti 2.35, Mt 2.30, Ta 1.00.

Female: Unknown.

Distribution: Known only from the type locality.
