Recorded from Madeira by Maul (1949: 155) as C. imberbis (Cuvier, 1815) and by Trott & Olney in Whitehead et al. (1986: 1174) under the name Carapus cuspis Arnold, 1956 , which is a junior synonym according to Markle & Olney (1990: 374). Recorded from Madeira by Wirtz (1994: 142), with a colour photo taken at Madeira.
