Sciara trivialis Johannsen, 1912 View in CoL [ Johannsen (1912): 136, figs 130, 249].

Selected literature: Mohrig et al. (2013): 231, fig. 49.

Further material: (not mentioned in Mohrig et al. 2013). 1 male, 5.ix.2000, USA, Alabama, Baldwin Country, Byrnes lake , 30.79°N, 87.91°W, leg. J. W. McCreadie, pitfall trap ( SDEI) GoogleMaps .

Comments. The species is characterized by having a lightly sclerotized, broad ventral base of the hypopygium, tending to form an intergonocoxal lobe. The gonostylus is elongate and bulbous on the inner side, with two long subapical spines of different lengths, a whiplash hair somewhat longer than the spines. 1 st and 2 nd antennal flagellomeres are pale. Flagellomeres are sparsely haired and with rather long dark bristles but also densely covered with fine hyaline sensory-like hairs inserted in rather large basal pits. The tibial organ on the fore tibia is nearly comblike and not bordered. It is nearly identical to Psl. villaborensis Heller, 2012 from Spain, except that European specimens possess a more distinct intergonocoxal lobe on the ventral base of the hypopygium.

Distribution. Holarctic. Canada (New Brunswick); USA (Alabama, New York).
