GD: Cosmopolitan; present on most or all of the islands of Greater Puerto Rico, except Mona Island.

The domestic honey bee, introduced from Europe by colonists in the 17 th century ( Engel 1999a), has colonized Puerto Rico for a long time. According to Ledru (1863) and Gundlach (1887), the species was already well established in the island’s non-cultivated habitats.
