Erythmelus (Erythmelus) hirtipennis Ogloblin, 1934 View in CoL
( Figs 10–12 View FIGURES 10–12 )
Eurythmelus hirtipennis Ogloblin 1934: 250–252 , plates XXII, XXIII (holotype female [MLPA], labeled: 1. “ Eurythmelus hirtipennis A. O. female Loreto, Misiones 1.V.1934. Typus ! [ Spur 5 dent. (in pencil, in Russian)]”; 2. ‘3900/1”, examined. Type locality: Loreto, Misiones, Argentina).
Erythmelus hirtipennis Ogloblin View in CoL : De Santis 1967: 108 (catalog).
Redescription. FEMALE (holotype). Body mostly brown to dark brown except the following parts light brown: posterior half of midlobe of mesoscutum, parts of pronotum, axilla, scutellum, and metanotum; basal gastral terga yellow to light brown; appendages pale to light brown or dusky.
Head with numerous setae, these particularly dense on upper face and vertex.
Antenna ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 10–12 ) with numerous short setae. Scape slightly curved, about 5.3 x as long as wide; pedicel much longer than F1; all funicular segments longer than wide; F1–F3 subequal in length, F4 and F5 slightly longer and subequal, F1–F5 without longitudinal sensilla, F6 the longest funicular segment, with 2 longitudinal sensilla; clava about 4.5 x as long as wide, apparently with 5 longitudinal sensilla.
Mesosoma ( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 10–12 ). Each lobe of pronotum with several strong, long setae. Mesoscutum a little wider than long, its midlobe finely longitudinally striate and with 1 pair of strong, long setae. Axillar seta about as long as half length of scutellum. Scutellum a little shorter than mesoscutum, posterior scutellum finely longitudinally striate. Dorsellum angulate posteriorly. Propodeum much shorter than scutellum, smooth.
Wings ( Fig. 12 View FIGURES 10–12 ). Forewing 5.0 x as long as wide; blade slightly infuscate behind venation but otherwise hyaline, uniformly setose beyond venation and with two irregular rows of setae behind marginal vein; longest marginal cilia 0.85 x greatest width of wing. Hind wing about 20 x as long as wide; blade hyaline; longest marginal cilia 3.1 x greatest wing width.
Metasoma ( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 10–12 ). Petiole much wider than long. Gaster longer than mesosoma; ovipositor about 3/4 length of gaster, a little exserted beyond apical gastral tergum (by about 1/7 of ovipositor length), and 1.3 x length of metatibia.
Measurements of holotype (in µm). Body 824; mesosoma 318; gaster 394; ovipositor 288. Antenna: scape (including radicle) 118; pedicel 49; F1 24; F2 24; F3 27; F4 36; F5 35; F6 69; clava 143. Forewing 615:121; longest marginal cilia 106. Hind wing 591:30; longest marginal cilia 97.
MALE. Unknown.
Diagnosis. Member of the flavovarius species group. Erythmelus (E.) hirtipennis is most similar to E. (E.) coviellai sp. n., as discussed above, from which it differs in having longitudinal sensilla only on F6 of the female antenna. Besides presence of setae behind the marginal vein, E. (E.) hirtipennis also differs from E. (E.) verticillatus Ogloblin in having much shorter setae on the funicular segments of the female antenna.
Distribution. Argentina.
Hosts. Unknown.
