Type locality. New Zealand.

Type material examined. 1 ex. Holotype (NHM): pinned into card, “Type” [round label with red border], “ Ptinus suturalis White \ Zool. Ereb & Terror. \ Leptosp. flowers \ Hooker and Smith” [handwritten].

Remarks. No precise locality is given in the original description.

Atopida brouni Sharp 1878: 47 . Broun 1880: 312 (reprinted excerpt of Sharp 1878, number 561). Sharp 1884: 299 (synonym of Atopida suturalis (White)) . Pic 1914: 16 (catalogue, as a synonym of A. suturalis ). Macfarlane et al. 2011: 420 (catalogue).

T.” [round label with red border], “Tairua, [red underline] \ New Zealand. \ Broun.”, “Sharp Coll. \ 1905-313.” Syntype (NHM): card-mounted, “ Atopida brouni \ Ind. typ. \ D.S. \ Tairua Broun” [written at base of card in Sharp’s hand], “Tairua, [red underline] \ New Zealand. \ Broun.”, “Sharp Coll. \ 1905-313.”, “= suturalis White ” [handwritten].

Remarks. Sharp described Atopida brouni from two specimens collected by T. Broun in Tairua (Sharp 1878).
