Genus Enghoffosoma Golovatch, 1993 View in CoL
Enghoffosoma Golovatch, 1993: 8 View in CoL .
Enghoffosoma View in CoL — Golovatch, 2011: 262; Nguyen and Sierwald, 2013: 1258.
Diagnosis. Body medium-sized to large (ca 18–40 mm long, ca 1.5–5.5 mm wide), with 20 segments. Paraterga from missing to very strongly developed, without lateral incisions. Transverse metatergal sulcus if any often faint and abbreviated. Sterna modified, with a small to evident cone near each coxa. Sternal lobe or cone(s) between male coxae 4 present. Pleurosternal carinae usually well-developed. First pair of male legs without femoral adenostyles. Male legs always with ventral brushes on tarsi, sometimes also on tibiae.
Gonopods only rather faintly curved, held subparallel to each other, with rather long, subcylindrical, distoventrally sparsely setose coxites; prefemoral (= setose) part of telopodite short to very short, 1/2–1/4 as long as acropodite; fermorite rather slender to stout, mostly enlarged distad, with a strong distolateral sulcus demarcating a “postfemoral” part; seminal groove running entirely or mostly mesally along femorite before turning laterad and passing onto a thick solenomere (sl), the latter opposed by a similarly thick to spiniform, ventral process (e) (= solenophore, = tibiotarsus), often with another, small, ventral or mesal process (p) at base; an evident to faint “postfemoral” shelf (b) also visible at base of e.
Type species. Sundanina spinipleura Carl, 1941 , by original designation.
Other species included: E. longipes Golovatch, 2011 , E. zebra sp. n., E. lanceolatum sp. n., E. anchoriforme sp. n., E. funda sp. n., E. bispinum sp. n.
Remarks. Based on a restudy of the lectotype of Sundanina spinipleura, Golovatch (1993) established the genus Enghoffosoma Golovatch, 1993 . Following Carl (1941), however, he grossly misinterpreted the gonopod structure by thinking that E. spinipleurum showed a flagelliform solenomere so characteristic of the bulk of Paradoxosomatinae. However, already the new illustrations of a gonopod he provided showed a thick solenomere. The mistake was corrected ( Golovatch 2011), and a reassignment of Enghoffosoma to the tribe Paradoxosomatini made, in relation to the description of a new congener from southern China: E. longipes Golovatch, 2011 .
