Anelytra (Anelytra) Redtenbacher, 1891 View in CoL
Anelytra lateralis (Erichson 1842) View in CoL is transferred from Anelytra View in CoL to Coptaspis Redtenbacher 1891 View in CoL , the type species of which is Coptaspis brevipennis Redtenbacher 1891 View in CoL , with the type locality Sydney, Australia. This leaves two other species in Coptaspis View in CoL which should not be there. C. crassinervosa Redtenbacher 1891 View in CoL , type locality New Caledonia and C. elegans Willemse 1966 View in CoL , type locality uncertain, but not Australia, are misplaced in Coptaspis View in CoL and should be moved to some other genus or genera when revisionary studies are made dealing with agraeciines from the South Pacific. The situation regarding A. nigrifrons Redtenbacher 1891 View in CoL , listed in Rentz & Balderson (1979) as from Australia was solved by Ingrisch (1998) with illustrations of the species provided by Helfert & Sänger (1977) from material collected on Doi Inthanon, the highest mountain in Thailand in Eades & Otte (2009).
I have examined the types of all the relevant taxa and here designate a lectotype female (see Eades & Otte 2009 for photos of the lectotype [http://osf2x.orthoptera.org/Common/basic/Taxa.aspx?TaxonNameID=1976]) from the type series of A. lateralis Erichson 1842 View in CoL in the Zoologisches Museum, Humboldt University, Berlin bearing the following labels: 1. “Type” (red label). 2. “ lateralis Er View in CoL * Vandiem. Schayer” (blue label). This species appears to be synonymous with C. brevipennis View in CoL but this opinion will have to await future revisionary studies.
Coptaspis Redtenbacher 1891 View in CoL , therefore, is represented by micropterous Australian species with saddle-shaped pronota with very shallow lateral lobes and comprises two described species, C. brevipennis View in CoL (http://osf2x.orthoptera.org/ Common/basic/Taxa.aspx?TaxonNameID=2015) and C. lateralis View in CoL . Illustrations of the types of all of the above species can be viewed on the Orthoptera Species File, Eades & Otte (2009).
