"Habitat in GalloProvinciae, Narbonae, Hispaniae apricis elevatis." RCN: 361.

Lectotype (Pastor & Valdés, Revis. Gen. Allium Penins. Iber. Islas Baleares : 98. 1983): Herb. Burser III: 111, right specimen ( UPS) .

Current name: Allium moschatum L. ( Liliaceae / Alliaceae ).

Note: De Wilde-Duyfjes (in Taxon 22: 70. 1973) incorrectly designated material in Herb. Bauhin, "Moly moschatum capillaceo folio" ( BAS), not seen by Linnaeus, as lectotype. Pastor & Valdés (in Rev. Gen. Allium Penins. Iber. Islas Balear. : 98. 1983) therefore rejected this choice, designating Burser material as the lectotype instead. However, López González (in Anales Jard. Bot. Madrid 57: 195-197 1999) demonstrates rather convincingly, based on correspondence between Löfling and Linnaeus, that the name was predominantly based on Löfling 253 (now lost). He argues that Burser III: 111 conflicts with the diagnosis that Linnaeus attributed to Löfling, and cannot be its type. He concludes that A. pallens L. (1762) is a synonym of A. moschatum L., and that A. capillare Cav. is the correct name for A. moschatum L. (1762), non Loefl. ex L. (1753). He suggests that usage of A. moschatum could be maintained by a conservation proposal based on Burser III: 111.
