Type Locality: Colombia, "W. Cundinamarca, in the low-lying hot regions." .
Vernacular Names: Sepia Short-tailed Opossum.
Synonyms: Monodelphis melanops (Goldman 1912) ; Monodelphis peruvianus ( Osgood 1913) .
Distribution: E Panamá, Colombia, Ecuador, Perú, and Bolivia.
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Emmons (1990) recognized peruvianus as a separate species.
