Distribution. Introduced. Afrotropical, Australasian/ Oceanian, Neotropical, Oriental; Galápagos: Floreana, Genovesa, Isabela, Pinta, Rábida (ICCDRS) , Santa Fé, Santa Cruz (ICCDRS).
Remarks. This species is known primarily from the littoral, arid and transition zones. This species breeds in various animal and vegetable wastes, but it mostly prefers carrion; completing its life cycle in less than three weeks ( James 1947).
