Distribution. Native. Pantropical (Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Oceans); Galápagos: Española, Genovesa (MONZ), Isabela, Marchena (ICCDRS), Rábida (MONZ) , Santa Cruz, Seymour.
Remarks. This species is a parasite of oceanic fish-eating birds, including boobies ( Sula Brisson ) and albatross ( Diomedea L.) ( Bequaert 1957). Adults of this species have also been recorded on swallow-tailed gulls ( Creagrus furcatus (Neboux)) and lava gulls ( Leucophaeus fuliginosus (Gould)) (MONZ) .
