Neodischistus Painter, 1933 View in CoL
Neodischistus Painter, 1933: 1 View in CoL ; Marston, 1961: 2; Hull, 1973: 127; Painter et al. 1978: 10; Evenhuis & Greathead, 1999: 161
Diagnosis. Neodischistus can be separated from other Bombyliini by the presence of a patch of silvery scales on each side of the face, occiput and abdomen (except for N. collaris where males lack silver scales and females have them only on face) and also by the subapical stylus (arista) placed in a dorsal groove of the flagellum (third antennal segment). The slightly sinuous posterior margin of the eye suggests a closer relation with Apiformyia Yeates , Heterostylum Macquart and Triploechus Edwards , but Neodischistus can be differentiated from them, not only by the subapical stylus, but also for the different size of the male ommatidia, which are larger on the upper half of the eye than in the inferior half.
Note. Complete description of Neodischistus was presented by Painter (1933), Marston (1961) and Hull, 1973.
