Range:— Jamaica; Hispaniola; southern Mexico to Bolivia (CO, LP, SC) and Brazil.
Ecology:— Fairly common; terrestrial in humid forests, especially on banks of wooded ravines, rarely on wet, mossy rocks; (700) 1050–2500 m.
Notes:— Similar to A. pteropus , which has mostly unforked veins, except the basal ones in each pinna (vs. mostly 1-forked nearly the length of the pinnae in A. alatum ), longer rhizome scales (6–9 mm vs. 1.5–3 mm), and non-proliferous blade apices.
