Euglossa milenae Bembé, 2007

Bembé (2007) described Euglossa milenae from Bolivia, with a large geographic distribution that included northern South America, Central America, and Brazil (states of Pará, in the Amazon, and Espírito Santo, in the Atlantic Forest). The record of Eg. milenae for the Atlantic Forest was based on a single specimen deposited at Moure’s Collection, at Universidade Federal do Paraná ( Bembé 2007). Nevertheless, this species was not included in my list of species occurring in the Atlantic Forest ( Nemésio 2009), due to the following reasons: “I could not study the single male from Espírito Santo, deposited at UFPR (Curitiba), and could not find this species among the hundreds of males from Espírito Santo I examined. I exclude this species from the Atlantic Forest species list until future studies confirm its presence” ( Nemésio 2009: 25). The males collected in Alagoas and here treated as Euglossa milenae are indistinguishable from the holotype, which I studied, and from a paratype from the type locality generously donated to me by B. Bembé and currently deposited at the Entomological Collections of the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais. Even details of general coloration, as the strong blue clypeus, are alike (see photographs of the holotype in Nemésio 2009: 26). This species showed a preference for the largest and best preserved forest remnant of Serra da Bananeira at ESEC Murici (see Table 1 ), suggesting it has some dependence on well-preserved environments.
