Type material: Holotype male, ETHIOPIA: Addis Ababa, swarming over lawn, ix. 1983, A. D. Harrison ( ZMBN Type No. 428).
Diagnostic characters: The very well developed tongue-shaped superior volsella, together with the absence of an accessory lobe of the inferior volsella distinguish the male imago from other members of the group.
Etymology: From the Middle Latin (and Greek) bubo, a tumor, a swelling in the groin, and the Latin -atus, suffix meaning provided with, referring to the large superior volsella.
