The insulsa group have wings with reduced anal lobe and relatively long costal extension, the postcubital fork is present except in P. amorimi , the mid leg has an inner tibial spur, the superior volsella is absent, the inferior volsella is without an accessory lobe except in P. zonata , the crista dorsalis is not evident, the female antenna has a subapical seta and tergite IX of the female is divided into protrusions, but without a caudal notch.
