This species is superficially similar to B. verticillata View in CoL and has been confused with that species in the past ( Macbride 1949). However, the wider leaves ( Fig. 2 C View FIGURE 2 ) and involucral segments ( Fig. 2 D View FIGURE 2 ) and the larger petals clearly distinguish it from all other species. Its peduncles are usually very long and robust ( Fig. 2 B View FIGURE 2 ). So far, no material of this species has been encountered either from the extreme north of Chile or from Peru.
