Carapace 2.12 long, 1.27 wide. Abdomen 2.34 long, 1.03 wide. Total, 4.8.

Colour. carapace and femora orange brown; carapace with slightly darker markings anterior to fovea and on interstrial ridges; legs otherwise yellow brown; abdomen light blue black dorsally overlaid but orange brown scute 3/4 abdomen length, with pair of large white ovoid spots laterally on midscute; ventrally, sternum brown orange, coxae I lighter, II–IV yellowish; abdomen with yellowish genital scute, centrally densely light brown flanked by dark brown. Carapace: narrow fovea just behind centre, posterior slope long, gradual from fovea, caput not raised, cuticle weakly pustulose, almost glabrous. Lateral profile of carapace ( Fig. 3f View FIGURE 3 ): caput arched anteriorly, sloping continuously in shallow slope from fovea along posterior declivity; highest point just behind eye group; eyes set behind clypeus edge. Retrolateral face of large chelicerae smooth. Eyes: front row straight and slightly wider than procurved back row; sizes AME = ca. 2–2.5 x ALE = PME = PLE ( Fig. 63a View FIGURE 63 ); lateral eyes on separate low tubercles. Chelicerae: robust, vertical, dentition 2R, 3P. Fang and transverse furrow long. Labium subquadrate. Maxillae longer than wide, outer edges straight. Sternum roughly triangular, converging from II/III, slightly domed; light cover of long brown setae, intercoxal extensions short. Legs: RCH and feathery hairs not evident. Trochanters not notched. Scopula absent. Tarsi cylindrical for length. Claw tufts small, dense, enclose claws. Femur IV without predistal constriction. Tarsi and metatarsi III and IV with thick lanceolate setae ventrally. Spines: strong on tibiae and metatarsi I and II. I: fe p1d2; ti v2.2.2; me v2.2. II: fe d3; ti p1v2.2.2; me p1v2.2. III: fe p1d3; pa 0; ti p1r2v2.2.2; me p2r2v2.2.3. IV: fe d4; pa 0; ti p1r2v2.2.2; me p2r2v2.2.3. Palp: fe d1; pa p1; ti p2. Abdomen: colulus very small; long narrow dorsal scute from anterior face, but lacks collar, for 3/4 length, not extending onto lateral surface; genital scute weak with very small post-epigastric sclerites; ventral scute weak, almost square, as far from genital groove as from edge of widely semicircular tracheal scute with wide ridge. Spinnerets: PLS ca. 1/2 diameter of ALS.

Female paralectotype like ♂ except:

Carapace 2.33 long, 1.40 wide. Abdomen 2.86 long, 1.26 wide. Total, 5.2.

Chelicerae: robust, without enlarged fang setae. Legs: RCH small, distinct. Spines: III: tibia p2. Abdomen: dorsal scute absent; tracheal scute weak, ovoid, with broad weak ridge. Epigyne: two deep fossae separated by broad, ridged depression; spermathecae highly folded; FD straight, forward and wide; spermathecae highly folded.

Distribution and Habitat. Known from the the Jardine River, near the tip of Cape York south to the Chillagoe area west to the Gulf of Carpentaria, north Queensland, an area of open forest and grasslands. The syntypes were listed from "Cooktown" (coastal northeastern Queensland); however, presumably that was merely its port of loading. As with N. avidus ( Thorell, 1881) , these are the first new records of this species since the 19 th century.
