Type locality and specimens. Patria [homeland]: Teneriffa insula [Tenerife], prope oppidum Orotavam [near the town of La Orotava].

Dimensions. Longit. corp. [body length] 13 mm, lat. [width] 2 mm.

Type material. Syntypes 2 ( ZMH-A0000697 , ZMH-A0008174 ). SPAIN: Tenerife (Canary Islands), La Orotava [ca. 28°15’N, 16°34’W] GoogleMaps .

Preservation. 1 jar and 2 vials. Jar label: Lithobius orotavae Latzel , 1 Holotype, 1 Paratype (printed label: Zool. Museum Hamburg). Vial 1 ( ZMH-A 0000697): Label 1. Old type catalogue. Weidner (1960), p. 72, No. 5. Holotype, 1 paratype.

Type status. Latzel noted that only two (probably juvenile) specimens were available. The ZMH specimens are these syntypes .

Current systematic position. Junior synonym of Lithobius melanops (Newport, 1845) according to Eason (1984: 389).
