Type locality and specimens. Mus. Godeffroy , Hamburg 7 Exemplare.— Fundort [locality]: Zanzibar .

Dimensions. Grösse [length] 56 [mm], Endbeine 8,5 Mm [mm]. [length of ultimate legs 8.5 mm].

Type material. Syntypes 4 ( ZMH-A0000637 , ZMH-A0009263-9265 ). TANZANIA: Zanzibar [ca. 6°08’S, 39°21’E] GoogleMaps .

Preservation. 1 jar: Label 1. Cormocephalus acanthophorus (n. sp.) Mus God. 1001 ([E.K]) Zanzibar; Label 2. Cormocephalus acanthophorus Kohlr. Originale MG 14947. Zanzibar; Label 3. Trachycormocephalus mirabilis (Por.) Orig. zu C. acanthophorus Kohlr. MG 14947. Zanzibar.

Old type catalogue. Weidner (1960), p. 65, No. 12. Syntypes 3.

Type status. Kohlrausch (1879) did not designate a holotype in his description. Weidner (1960: 65) noted that 3 of the 7 syntypes are still existing but there are actually 4 specimens in the collection. Specimens were also offered for sale in the Godeffroy catalogues (Appendix 3) and there may be syntypes in other collections.

Collection remarks. The specimens came from the private Museum Godeffroy in Hamburg. The original series comprised 7 syntypes of which 4 have been preserved ( Weidner 1960) .

Current systematic position. Junior synonym of Scolopendra mirabilis ( Porat, 1876) according to Kraepelin (1903: 219–220).
