Type locality and specimens. Dernah , Cyrenaica, 2. Hälfte des August [Derna, Cyrenaica, Libya, Second half of August] .

Dimensions. Körper des Erwachsenen 63 mm lang [Body of adult 63 mm long].

Type material. Syntypes 3 ( ZMH-A0009518-9520 ). LIBYA: Derna [32°46’N, 22°38’E] .

Preservation. 1 jar: Label. “Adolescentes wahrscheinlich Scolopendra cyrenaica . Tripolis, Dernah, 3 Expl. Verh. Dr. B. Klaptocz leg. 1906. K.W. Verhoeff publ. 2008. Fr. Werner vend. 26.10.16. Das public. ♂ hier nicht eingegangen“.

Remarks. Verhoeff mentions 1 adult specimen and 3 subadults. The description is based on the adult specimen and the three juveniles are listed in the distribution section. We interprete all specimens as syntypes but also note that the adult was never lodged at the ZMH. The file card states M. Würmli rev. 1974: Keine Typen! Es handelt sich um S. canidens candidens [Not types! Specimens belong to S. canidens canidens ]. All specimens were collected by Dr. Bruno Klaptocz from Vienna.

Current systematic position. Junior synonym of S. canidens (Newport, 1844) according to Würmli (1980: 317).
