Diagnosis. Zadbimyia elenae is another species with a double pair of paramere processes that are directed essentially laterad ( Fig. 18 View FIGURE 18 C) (see Z. anniae , Fig. 16 View FIGURE 16 D, and Z. tapanti , Fig. 17 View FIGURE 17 C). A distinguishing character of Z. elenae is that the processes are elongate, almost straight, and broadly merged at the bases ( Fig. 18 View FIGURE 18 C). The apicomedial portion of the parameres is twice as long as wide.

Other male characters. Body length 2.0 mm. Head. Eye bridge 10–11 ommatidia long dorsally. Scape twice as long as pedicel. Antennae broken, maximally 12 flagellomeres retained. Fourth flagellomere ( Fig. 18 View FIGURE 18 B): neck length 0.4 × node length, neck with microtrichia basally. Maxillary protuberance prolonged. Palpus 4-segmented. Terminalia. Gonocoxites ( Fig. 18 View FIGURE 18 A): ventral emargination small, broadly V-shaped, membranous at base of V. Gonostylus evenly curved, strongly excavated dorsomedially ( Fig. 18 View FIGURE 18 A). Ejaculatory apodeme longer than parameres ( Fig. 18 View FIGURE 18 C).

Etymology. This species is named after Elena Ulate, a long-time employee at INBio with expertise in both Coleoptera and Diptera , whose primary function within ZADBI is the slide-mounting of nematocerous Diptera .

Holotype. Male, Costa Rica, San José province, Moravia, Zurquí de Moravia, 1600 m, 19 July 2013, bucket light trap, ZADBI Project ( ZADBI #933, INBio #107252).
