Zadbimyia costaricensis View in CoL sp. n.

Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 A–D

Diagnosis. This is the only species of Zadbimyia whose parameres have one pair of large, apically curved, movable processes, smooth lateral shoulders, and a seemingly two-pointed apex ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 B). See Z. browni ( Fig. 5 View FIGURE 5 B) and Z. artborkenti ( Fig. 6 View FIGURE 6 D) for two species with similar paramere processes.

Other male characters. Body length 2.0 mm. Head. Eye slightly narrowed ventrally, eye bridge 10–11 ommatidia long dorsally. Scape length 1.8 × pedicel length. With 20 flagellomeres. Fourth flagellomere ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 D): neck length 0.4 × node length, neck completely covered with microtrichia. Palpus with 2–3 segments, if 2- segmented apical segment markedly elongated. Thorax. Setae on both anepisternum and anepimeron sparse. Legs. Claws with tiny ancillary tooth subapically. Terminalia. Gonocoxites ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 C): ventral emargination large, broadly V-shaped, antGA thick. Gonostylus large in relation to gonocoxite, evenly curved, excavated dorsomedially ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 C). Ejaculatory apodeme as long as parameres, slightly broadened toward apex, ducts of accessory glands indistinct ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 B).

Etymology. The name costaricensis is a Latin adjective referring to the occurrence of this species in Costa Rica.

Types. Holotype. Male, Costa Rica, San José province, Moravia, Zurquí de Moravia, 1600 m, 17–23 Nov. 2012, emergence trap, ZADBI Project (ZADBI #248, INBio #105456). Paratypes. 1 male, same locality as the holotype, 22 Sep. 2012, CDC light trap, ZADBI Project (ZADBI #47, INBio #105060); 1 male, same locality, 23 Sep. 2012, CDC light trap, ZADBI Project (ZADBI #38, INBio #105052); 1 male, same locality, 24 Sep. 2012, CDC light trap, ZADBI Project (ZADBI #53, INBio #105066); 2 males, same locality, 22 Oct. 2012, CDC light trap, ZADBI Project (ZADBI #163, INBio #105272).
