Zadbimyia holdenae View in CoL sp. n.

Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 A–C

Diagnosis. This species is peculiar among Zadbimyia for the gonostylus having a protrusion subapicomedially, so the apical margin is angular rather than evenly rounded ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 A). The parameres have a pair of large, saber-shaped processes; the lateral shoulders are prolonged into narrow processes ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 C).

Other male characters. Body length 1.9 mm. Head. Eye narrowed ventrally, eye bridge 10–11 ommatidia long dorsally. Scape twice as long as pedicel. Antennae broken, maximum of 3 flagellomeres retained. Third flagellomere ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 B): neck length 0.4 × node length, neck completely covered with microtrichia. Palpus 3- segmented. Terminalia. Gonocoxites ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 A): ventral emargination U-shaped, sclerotized at base of U, antGA thick. Gonostylus slightly curved, pointed apically ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 A). Ejaculatory apodeme somewhat longer than parameres ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 C). Parameres elongate-subrectangular, apicomedial portion as long as wide, ending on same level with lateral shoulders ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 C).

Etymology. This species is named after Anna Holden, entomologist and manager of ZADBI in the initial phase of the project.

Holotype. Male, Costa Rica, San José province, Moravia, Zurquí de Moravia, 1600 m, 22 Oct. 2012, CDC light trap, ZADBI Project ( ZADBI #163, INBio #105272).
