Type Locality: Mexico, Chiapas, San Cristóbal de las Casas, 9500 ft. (2900 m).

Vernacular Names: Guatemalan Broad-clawed Shrew.

Distribution: Highlands above 2000 m in S Mexico (Chiapas) and Guatemala.

Discussion: C. mexicana group, goldmani subset ( Woodman and Timm, 1999). Formerly included in goldmani by Choate (1970), but given species rank by Woodman and Timm (1999).
