Type Locality: Sudan, Bahr el Abiad.

Vernacular Names: Savanna Shrew.

Synonyms: Crocidura arethusa Dollman 1915 ; Crocidura beta Dollman 1915 ; Crocidura diana Dollman 1915 ; Crocidura fulvaster Sundevall 1843 ; Crocidura macrodon Dobson 1980 ; Crocidura marrensis Thomas and Hinton 1923 ; Crocidura sericeus Sundevall 1843 ; Crocidura strauchii Dobson 1890 .

Distribution: Sudan savanna from Kenya to Mali.

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).

Discussion: Gureev (1979) listed beta as a distinct species without comment. For synonyms see Hutterer (1984), Hutterer and Kock (1983) and Hutterer and Happold (1983).
