Sterculia acerina Doweld , nom. nov.
≡ Sterculia crassinervia ( Ettingshausen 1869: 22) Procházka & Bůžek (1975: 59) View in CoL , nom. illegit. non Sterculia crassinervia Miquel (1861: 399) View in CoL (extant) ≡ Acer crassinervium Ettingshausen (1869: 22) .
Type:—[fossil leaves] Kučlín, okres Teplice, Ústecký kraj, Czech Republic (lectotype [designated by Procházka & Bůžek (1975: 59)], Ettingshausen Coll. s.n., Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest, Hungary)—figured by Ettingshausen 1869: pl. 45, fig. 13.
Note:—The fossil-species Sterculia crassinervia (Ettingshausen) Procházka & Bůžek (1975: 59) is a later homonym of the extant Sterculia crassinervia Miquel (1861: 399) , based on the fossil leaves from the European Upper Eocene (Bartonian) sediments of Kučlín near Bílina (Ústecký kraj, Czech Republic); therefore, a new replacement name is introduced for the European fossil-species.
Eponymy:— Acer -like foliage.
