( Figs 4 View FIGURES 1–6 , 10 View FIGURES 7–12 , 16 View FIGURES 13–18 , 22–23 View FIGURES 22–25 , 35–37 View FIGURES 32–37 )

Labidostomis elegans var. luristanica Pic, 1920: 6 (unavailable infrasubspecific name); Rapilly, 1984b: 216 (as synonym of L. shirazica ).

Labidostomis (Labidostomis) luristanica Warchałowski, 2004: 557 (validated as name of species); Regalin & Medvedev 2010: 571 (catalogue); Warchałowski 2010: 82 (key).

Labidostomis shirazica: Warchałowski 1985: 728 (misidentification).

Type locality. Labidostomis elegans var. luristanica : “Luristan” [= Iran, Lorestan province].

Types examined. Labidostomis elegans var. luristanica : Syntype: ♀, “v. Bodemeyer / Persien / Luristan [w, p] // elegans [w, h] // v. luristanica / Pic [w, h] // v. luristanica Pic [b, h] // type [w, h] // TYPE [r, p] // Museum Paris [p] / Pic [w, h] // Labidostomis / shirazicus Lopatin [h] / M Rapilly dét. 19 [p] 81 [w, h]” (MNHN—coll. generale).

Additional material examined. 11 specimens — IRAN: Kurdistan prov.: Sanandaj env., 29. iv.2006, 4 ♂♂ 2 ♀♀ , D. Farbiak leg. ( NMPC); 30 km S of Sanandaj, Danan env., 35°01´18´´N 46°59´06´´E, 1350 m, 14. v.2016, 2 ♂♂, 1 ♀ GoogleMaps , D. Frank leg. ( DFCP). Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari prov.: Haruni , 32°23´57´´N 50°34´17´´E, 2300 m, 10. v.2012, 1 ♀ GoogleMaps , D. Frenzel leg. ( FFCJ); same data, 1 ♀ GoogleMaps , J. Weipert leg. ( FFCJ). Zanjan prov.: 7 km E of Sa ´id Abad , 36°23.3´N 48°11.7´E, 1635 m, 11.–12. v.2006, 1 ♂ GoogleMaps , J. Hájek & P. Chvojka leg. (NMPC).

Diagnostic characters. Body length: ♂♂ 5.1–6.9 mm; ♀♀ 5.0–6.1 mm.

Colouration. Labrum pale brown, usually with slightly darkened middle part. Elytra with small humeral spots and large discal spot with anterior margin oblique and reaching apex of scutellum, lateral margin straight and parallel with elytral margin, posterior margin transverse, slightly uneven ( Fig. 35, 36 View FIGURES 32–37 ). In some females anterior margin of large discal spot transversely straight in middle ( Fig. 37 View FIGURES 32–37 ).

Head ( Fig. 16 View FIGURES 13–18 ) with large frontal impression covered with large punctures and horizontal wrinkles. Anterior clypeal processes narrow, with inner margins parallel, outer margins oblique and with apical tips rounded, clypeal margin between processes pointed in middle. Mandibles relatively narrow, with sharp dorsal keel. Only inner slopes of mandibles visible in dorsal view.

Aedeagus ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1–6 ). Dorsal impression large, subtriangular with widely rounded apex, often with two additional small impressions basally. Apical quarter of aedeagus subtriangular with slightly concave sides, tip shortly rounded. Operculum subpentagonal. Apex of aedeagus without inward triangular crooked folds. Visible part of anterior sclerite forming thin trident star. Ventral side with two elongate impressions subapically.

Everted aedeagus ( Fig. 22 View FIGURES 22–25 ). Ejaculatory guide with flat ventral side, lateral sides flat, subtriangular, rightangled to ventral side, middle part with long slightly round process directed backwards. Lateral sclerites small, triangular. Anterior sclerite small, forming two concave plates connected in basal suture.

Spermatheca ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 7–12 ). Vasculum widely round, apical part with round apex, basal part distinctly wider. Bulbus small, subtriangular. Ductus spermathecae very long, ca 6 times as long as vasculum, proximally nearly straight, distally with simple loops.

Distribution. Iran (Lorestan, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, Kurdistan, Zanjan provinces).

Differential diagnosis. Labidostomis luristanica has brownish labrum medially darkened and large elytral spot always reaching the scutellum. Similar species L. shirazica and L. regalini sp. nov. differ in the structure of internal sclerites of aedeagus ( Figs. 22–25 View FIGURES 22–25 ). Moreover, the males of L. shirazica have convergent inner margins of clypeal processes ( Fig. 17 View FIGURES 13–18 ). The females of L. luristanica have very long ductus spermathecae, ca 6 times as long as vasculum ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 7–12 ), while ductus spermathecae in females of L. shirazica and L. regalini sp. nov. is much shorter, ca 2–3 times as long as vasculum ( Fig. 11, 12 View FIGURES 7–12 ).

Comments. As shown by Bezděk & Regalin (2015), Labidostomis elegans var. luristanica was described in a paper containing also description of subspecies ( Pic 1920), thus it became infrasubspecific according to Article 45.6.4 of the Code ( ICZN 1999). However, it was validated by Warchałowski (2004) who treated it as a valid species and thus established a new name with new authorship in agreement with Article 45.5.1 ( ICZN 1999).

The male from Zanjan province is attributed to L. luristanica with some doubts. The ejaculatory guide has narrower lateral lamellas and longer middle process in comparison with additional specimens ( Figs. 22, 23 View FIGURES 22–25 ). Also the anterior margin of elytral discal spot does not reach the scutellum as in the specimens from other provinces.
