Xyleborus distinguendus Eggers, 1930: 205 View in CoL . Type spurious. Neotype here designated.
Neotype. Female. INDIA: Assam (Nakachari, Sibsagar), C.F.C. Beeson, 17.v.1921, ex. Vatica lanceaefolia ( FRI).
Original type locality: INDIA: United Provinces (Uttarakhand), Almora, Kali Valley , 9000’, 10.vii.1923, R.N. Parker ( Eggers 1930).
Diagnosis: This species is distinguished by its moderate size (2.5 ¯ 2.9 mm long, 2.7 ¯ 2.9 times as long as wide), ferruginous body with yellow-red limbs, declivity steep, occupying posterior quarter of elytra, declivital face shagreened, striae feebly impressed, declivital interstriae 1, 3 armed by three to four denticles, elytral apex with a granule on each interstria.
Discussion: The holotype specimen of X. distinguendus does not match Eggers’ (1930) description; however, the labels on the specimen match the description. The description clearly indicates a species that belongs in Cyclorhipidion , yet the specimen is of an undescribed Microperus (Smith et al. in prep). The holotype labeled as Xyleborus tristis matches Eggers’ description of X. distinguendus , and is here designated as the neotype of Xyleborus distinguendus . We are confident that this neotype was the holotype specimen. Due to the mislabeling event it is very likely that the species does not actually occur at the low elevation indicated by the locality label. Xyleborus distinguendus is here transferred to Cyclorhipidion because of the following combination of characters: antennal club pubescent, type 3 ( Hulcr et al. 2007); pronotum and elytra rounded; body densely pubescent; elytra finely and minutely punctate.
