Xyleborinus subgranulatus (Eggers) View in CoL
Xyleborus subgranulatus Eggers, 1930: 202 View in CoL . Type spurious. Neotype here designated.
Neotype. Female. INDIA: Assam, Central Range, Sibsagar Division , 9 u. 10.v.1921, ex. Vatica lanceafolia ( NHMW) . Original type locality: INDIA: Assam, Central Range, Sibsagar Division , 9 u. 10.v.1921, ex. Vatica lanceafolia. Diagnosis: This species can be distinguished from other Xyleborinus View in CoL by its small size (1.2–1.8 mm long), elytral
base with broad scutellar emargination, scutellum reduced, conical, scarcely occupying 25% of scutellar space,
remaining space densely setose, declivital face shagreened, interstriae 1 and 3 feebly feebly elevated, interstriae 1 with
granules on apical half of declivity and interstriae 3 bearing numerous tubercles evenly spaced from base to apex. Discussion: The holotype bears locality labels that do not match the published locality information ( Eggers 1930).
The locality on these labels is Assam, Central Range, Sibsagar Division, C.F.C. Beeson, 9.v.1921, ex. unidentified
timber. Unlike the other species discussed in this paper, not only is the type specimen incorrect, but the locality labels are
as well. The original description indicates that the species is actually a female Xyleborinus but the holotype is a male
Cyclorhipidion species. The cotype (paratype), identified by Eggers and collected from the same locality is here
designated as the neotype.
