Hyposoter rhodocerae ( Rondani, 1877) View in CoL
Tryphon (Perilissus) rhodocerae Rondani, 1877 : lectotype ♁ in MZUF, designated by Horstmann (1991) and examined by him.
Very similar to H. ebeninus View in CoL , but distinguishable by the key characters, which were first established by Horstmann (1991).
This species has been regularly reared from Gonepteryx rhamni and G. cleopatra (e.g. Shaw et al. 2016), which are the only known hosts. There are a further 8 specimens in NHMUK reared from G. rhamni and a further 25 stated on the labels to have been reared from Apanteles gonopterygis Marshall (now Cotesia gonopterygis , Microgastrinae , Braconidae ): this is certainly incorrect (on size alone!), and there can be little doubt that they were actually reared from G. rhamni . We have seen specimens from the UK, Germany, France, Spain and Italy.
