Sphaerosyllis capensis Day, 1953 View in CoL View at ENA

Notes

Questionable status. Reported from Greece by Arvanitidis (2000a), in the Mediterranean also reported from Spain ( San Martín et al. 1981b), otherwise distributed along the coast of South Africa and in the Indian Ocean. The specimens may have been confused with other Mediterranean species. Sphaerosyllis capensis is distinguished from many congeners by having all antennae in line. However, the position of the antennae in preserved material may be misleading if fixation has caused muscle contraction ( Riser 1991).
