Type Locality: "Nieuw-Guinea, in de triton's baai (op 3°39'Z. breedte)" = Indonesia, Prov. of Papua (= Irian Jaya), Fakfak Div., Lobo Dist., near Triton Bay, Mt. Lamantsjieri.

Vernacular Names: Three-striped Dasyure.

Synonyms: Myoictis bruijni ( Peters 1875) ; Myoictis buergersi (Stein 1932) ; Myoictis senex (Stein 1932) ; Myoictis thorbeckiana (Schlegel 1866) ; Myoictis wavicus Tate 1947 .

Distribution: Prov. of Papua (= Irian Jaya) and NE Papua New Guinea; Salawati Isl. Also Waigeo, Yapen, possibly Batanta.

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc). Secure.

Discussion: This species was further described by Müller and Schlegel, in Temminck, Verh. Nat. Gesch. Nederland. Overz. Bezitt., Zool., Mammalia, p. 149[1845], pl. 25[1843].
