Measurements. Total length 20.7–24.8; total width 11.7–13.4; head length 1.3–1.8; head width 3.3–3.7; length of antennal articles I: 0.9–1.2; II: 1.7–2.4; III: 1.5–2.2; IV: 3.8–4.9; V: 4.2–5.3; pronotum length 3.4–4.7; pronotum width 11.5–14.0; scutellum length 9.1–11.5; scutellum width 7.0–8.3.

Diagnosis. Species large (20–25 mm) and dorsally green. Pronotum with punctures brown or dark brown not on dark spots. Scutellum with punctures smaller than punctures on pronotum. Contour of the corium almost completely made by yellow veins like in P. poecila ; close to costal margin sometimes can be found few (1–3) small calloused yellow spots. Connexivum completely green without spots or callous; segment VII half green and half black with a distinct spine curved to inner side ( Fig. 12I View FIGURE 12 ). Body ventrally variegated with green and yellow, medially predominantly pale yellow, dark narrow lines on thorax and sometimes on intersegmental areas of abdomen and pseudosutures. Evaporatorium concolorous. Antennae yellow, but sometimes first three segments darker than the rest. Legs yellow.

Head. Mandibular plates without dark stripes. Tylus with narrow brown margin. Ventrally yellow. First rostral segment surpassing bucculae in lateral view.

Thorax. Pronotum densely punctured, punctures coarse; cicatrices, delimiting furrows and surrounding calloused stripes concolorous with pronotum ( Fig. 12I View FIGURE 12 ), without spots or punctures. Anterolateral margin pale yellow to greenish yellow; line of concolorous to light brown fine punctures short, not reaching 1/3 of the margin. Anterolateral margin not punctured. Scutellum with coarse, large and brown punctures sparser on anterior half than on posterior part; posterior punctures fine, small and brown. Corium with yellow veins not branched. Propleura with brown stripe alongside concolorous, fine and dense punctures; lateral margin green ( Fig. 12J View FIGURE 12 ). Evaporatorium concolorous and slightly rugose without stain. Peritreme long reaching 2/3 of the distance between ostiole of the scent gland and margin of the body. Metasternal process green with arms broad and receiving fourth and part of third rostral segment ( Fig. 12J View FIGURE 12 ).

Abdomen. Connexivum with excavations concolorous and densely punctured, punctures concentrated on excavations and inner margin; base of lateral spines green. Lateral part of segment VII, corresponding to ventral side of connexivum, green with margin and apex black. Area surrounding spiracle green. Small rounded spot close to spiracle not visible, sometimes only a degraded mark of internal layers of exoskeleton ( Fig. 12J View FIGURE 12 ).

Male ( Fig. 5A–C View FIGURE 5 ). Pygophore with posterolateral angles dorsally flattened and barely projected ( Fig. 5A View FIGURE 5 ). Superior process of the genital cup small, short, elliptical and laterally depressed forming a central keel. Paramere distally expanded, forming two rounded processes; basal process linguiform and curved laterally; dorsal margin excavated ( Fig. 5B View FIGURE 5 ). Proctiger almost entirely green, short, not reaching level of posterolateral angles ( Figs 2 A, C View FIGURE 2 ); lateral excavation forming dorsally a small crest; dorsal part of posterior face not or barely tumid. Ventral rim medially green; expansions well developed and not tumid. Ventral surface mostly green with central suffused dark stripe and few suffused stains; punctures fine and concolorous ( Fig. 5C View FIGURE 5 ). Phallus long, ventral part broad, distal part barely developed and slightly bitumid ( Fig. 10F View FIGURE 10 ).

Female ( Fig. 5D View FIGURE 5 ). Gonocoxites 8 convex; distal margin arched; sutural border divergent on distal half, leaving carina from gonapophysis 8 visible. Gonocoxites 9 large, nearly as long as segment X; distal margin rounded or straight. Laterotergites 8 short spine far below the level of segment VII. Laterotergites 9 with distal spine black; large basal part flat or slightly excavated; level with laterotergites 8. Capsula seminalis globose, strongly developed; processes long, clearly exceeding anterior annular flange, increasing in length, and one additional very short middorsal process ( Fig. 11F). Ductus receptaculi (tdr) long, clearly longer than capsula seminalis.

Comments. The syntypes of Pentatoma polita by Lepeletier et Serville (1825), male and female, were examined by Pieter van Doesburg in Paris (MNHN) that labeled material in Leiden (Naturalis-NNM) as compared with type. The later specimens were studied by J. A. Fernandes. Here the male is selected as Lectotype of the species. We do not examine the syntypes, but the original description mention the outstanding spine of the last segment of connexivum, confirming the identification of the material studied here.

Distribution ( Fig. 15 View FIGURE 15 ). BRASIL: Pará, Maranhão, Tocantins, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul; ECUADOR: Napo; BOLIVIA: Santa Cruz; PARAGUAY: Caaguazú; ARGENTINA: Loreto.
