Measurements. Total length 21.6–23.5; total width 12.2–13.2; head length 1.9–2.5; head width 3.7–4.1; length of antennal articles I: 0.7–1.2; II: 2.6–2.8; III: 1.9–2.3; IV: 5.4–5.6; pronotum length 4.1–4.9; pronotum width 13.3–14.6; scutellum length 9.6–10.2; scutellum width 7.6–8.0.
Diagnosis. Species large (21—24 mm) and dorsally dark green. Pronotum and scutellum with brown to black punctures arranged in dark lines interspersed with irregular yellow lines or spots. Contour of the corium almost completely made by yellow veins. Connexivum with a contrasting yellow margin and medial callus on each segment ( Fig. 12E View FIGURE 12 ), intersegmental yellow spot bigger than in P. irrorata ; segment VII almost completely black, less than basal 1/5 green, medial yellow spot present. Body ventrally variegated with yellow, green, brown and dark brown. Evaporatorium dark brown or variegate. Antennae reddish brown. Legs reddish brown and yellow.
Head. Mandibular plates punctured, lateral margins yellow, base sometimes with semicircular yellow line. Tylus with longitudinal yellow median stripe ( Fig. 12E View FIGURE 12 ). Ventral surface yellow. First rostral segment clearly surpassing bucculae in lateral view.
Thorax. Pronotum densely punctured, punctures coarse and black, frequently on dark spots; pronotal disc with small irregular yellow callus; cicatrices variegate with brown, green and greenish yellow, delimiting dark brown furrows surrounded by pale greenish yellow calloused stripes ( Fig. 12E View FIGURE 12 ); anterior delimiting furrow densely punctured. Anterolateral margin yellow; line of black coarse punctures long, exceeding ½ of the margin. Scutellum with large, coarse, black punctures sparser on most part of the disc than on laterals and distal fourth, lateral and distal punctures fine, small and black; large punctures on dark spots. Corium with a few yellow veins not branched but forming a rhombus ( Fig. 12E View FIGURE 12 ). Propleura with dark stripe alongside brown, fine and dense punctures; green stripe near yellow margin ( Fig. 12F View FIGURE 12 ). Evaporatorium dark and rugose. Peritreme long reaching 2/3 of the distance between ostiole of the scent gland and margin of the body. Metasternal process ventrally green, but lateral part predominantly greenish yellow; arms broad and receiving fourth and most of third rostral segment ( Fig. 12F View FIGURE 12 ). Legs with trochanters, femora and proximal part of tibiae dark reddish brown; remaining of fore and mid legs dark yellow or suffused; remaining of hind legs light yellow ( Fig. 12F View FIGURE 12 ).
Abdomen. Connexivum with excavations dark and densely punctured, except on yellow spots; base of lateral spines yellow. Lateral part of segment VII, corresponding to ventral side of connexivum, green with margin and large spot dark brown to black. Yellow spot surrounding spiracles variable in size. Small rounded spot close to each spiracle barely visible, sometimes only a degraded mark of internal layers of exoskeleton ( Fig. 12F View FIGURE 12 ).
Male ( Fig. 3A–C View FIGURE 3 ). Pygophore with posterolateral angles dorsally flattened to slightly concave and barely projected posteriorly ( Fig. 3A View FIGURE 3 ). Superior process of the genital cup medium, short and elliptical. Paramere with large distal forming a keel and a lateral process digitiform; basal process curved and directed laterally; dorsal margin enlarged and excavated ( Fig. 3B View FIGURE 3 ). Proctiger almost entirely dark brown, long, slightly exceeding the level of posterolateral angles ( Fig. 3A, C View FIGURE 3 ); lateral excavation forming dorsally a small crest; dorsal part of posterior face bitumid. Ventral rim medially with dark brown spot; expansions strongly developed and not tumid ( Fig. 3C View FIGURE 3 ). Ventral surface mostly yellow with dark brown “V” and medial spot; punctures coarse and black ( Fig. 3C View FIGURE 3 ). Phallus short, distal part well developed and conical expansion small ( Fig. 10D View FIGURE 10 ).
Female ( Fig. 3D View FIGURE 3 ). Gonocoxites 8 with lateral margin rounded and posterior margin slightly arched; punctures concentrated on inner half; sutural border contiguous except distally; gonapophysis 8 not visible. Gonocoxites 9 large; distal margin slightly rounded. Laterotergites 8 with distal spine almost completely black that exceeds apex of segment VII; rectangular black stain on distal half. Laterotergites 9 with basal part slightly excavated; black apices below the level of laterotergites 8. Capsula seminalis globose, but not strongly developed; processes long, clearly exceeding anterior annular flange, but one distinctly shorter than the others ( Fig. 11D). Ductus receptaculi (tdr) long, but not clearly longer than capsula seminalis.
Comments. Like in P. irrorata , a few specimens have metasternal process with a faded green color and lateral sides yellow; indicating that P. poecila probably has the same coloration pattern found in P. variegata . Two specimens showed the tarsi from hind legs suffused like the other legs.
Distribution ( Fig. 14). HONDURAS: Lempira. COSTA RICA: Guanacaste, Alajuela, Heredia, Cartago, Limón.
