Gussone (1855) described S. inarimensis , providing a detailed diagnosis and description (both in Latin), the habitat (“ In saxosis et lapidosis maritimis ”) and several localities (“Bagno a S. Alessandro sul mare, scogli di S. Anna presso Ischia, marina de’ Maronti, e della Scarupata, Punta di S. Angelo, rupi della Punta dell’Imperatore presso Forio, di Zale, e del monte Vico presso al Lacco”). An illustration (“t. XII. f. 1. a.”, image available at http://www.biodiversitylibrary. org/item/40174#page/300/mode/1up) was also published, and it can be considered as part of the original material.

One sheet found at NAP (herbarium Gussone) bears four plants and four labels. Three labels were written by G. Gussone and they include: (1) date and locality of collection (“… 24 Maggio 1849 | Ischia al Bagno sulla collina loco dicto di S. Alessandro”), (2) a detailed description of the taxon, and (3) the complete name and a reference to Candolle’s Prodromus [“ Statice ( inarimensis Guss. ) | S. minutiflora Guss. ex Boiss. in Dec. pr. 12 p. 652 | In lapidosis maritimis ”] 1. A fourth label was recently added by S. Pignatti [“n° 1440 | Limonium inarimense (Guss.) Pign. | Lectotypus (14.09.1958)”]. As no publication appears to be existing, Pignatti’s typification on the sheet is not effective (Art. 7.9 of ICN). The plants on the sheet match the protologue and correspond with the current concept of the species (e.g., Pignatti 1982).

We therefore here designate the specimen at NAP as the lectotype of the name Statice inarimensis .
